April Plan with Me: A Game of Thrones

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

April 14th is coming… I am a HUGE Game of Thrones fan. I’ve read the books through a couple of times and watched the whole show more times than I care to share. Obsessive, yes. Is that ok with me, you bet.

Like many die hard fans, I’ve been super excited for the upcoming final season of the show. So what better theme for the month of April than Game of Thrones.

Planning it out

I’ve known that I wanted to do Game of Thrones this month for a long time.

But I wasn’t sure how I wanted to do it. I was thinking or doing cartoon versions of the characters but I didn’t think that I could manage the look that I would want for them.

I also knew that I wanted to include some iconic lines from the books/show.

Since I didn’t go for the “house theme” for my Harry Potter spread back in November I decided to give that a try for this theme instead.

Take a look at my Pinterest Board full of the sigils and sayings of the great houses of Westeros as well as a little bit of fan art. Remember to follow me while you’re there!

I add new bullet journal idea boards regularly.

Picking Sigils

I didn’t want to just pick the largest or most well known families for my spreads. I wanted to pick houses with characters I liked, rooted for, or just got a kick out of. (Here’s looking at you Lord Baelish!)

Finding Quotes

The motto’s of the families are also not the lines that I wanted to feature. As they aren’t really that interesting with the exception of the cultural phenomenon that is “Winter is Coming”.

I went through and tried to find awesome lines that were associated with a character from that house that I liked. But I didn’t always do that. ie. the Tyrell line (you’ll see below).

Matching them up

Of course after I settled on houses and lines I matched them up the best I could then went on to figuring out which ones would be added to what spreads.

Calendar

I always do a combination calendar page to start my monthly set ups. A mini calendar on the right page and a ryder calendar on the left combined with a habit tracker.

This month I’m going to be staying away from the script fonts but it always sneaks in before I remember that. So the first iconic line is in cursive.

I coloured in the direwolf of house Stark with my silver Crayola Metallic marker. LOVE THIS MARKER! Honestly, using those markers just add some awesome-ness to any spread.

Under the Ryder calendar, I had some space so I added the trout of Riverrun and their family words “Family. Duty. Honour.” Since the Starks and the Tullys are the first families we’re introduced to.

Monthly Trackers

I made some changes here this month.

My chores spread and gratitude trackers have been staples in my monthly set ups since last June. But I found that in March I wasn’t filling out my gratitude log like I normally do.

I also really liked using the new fitness tracker that I created last month so wanted to include it again.

In order to be as efficient as possible with my space I put my chores and gratitude on the same page.

I also only needed the tracker part of my fitness spread so I could fit it on one page instead of two.

This was great since now my trackers are condensed and all in one spot.

I decided to put the Martell’s sigil on this spread and only used gold and red in addition to black, as they are the Martell colours. I also got a bit of a kick out of including Oberyn’s line “Today is not the day I die” on my fitness page.

No, working out won’t kill me so I should probably just do it lol.

I love the gold metallic that I added into the thicker part of my lettering as well.

Planning Pages

At the beginning of the year I knew I wanted to include more planning pages in my bullet journal to make sure that I’m staying on track from hitting my big goals for the year.

This is why I have a blog planning page and a more general monthly plan. I always link these pages back to the 30.60.90 action plan I do every 3 months.

On my blog page I have the Targaryen three-headed dragon and Daenarys quote “A dragon is not a slave”.

I chose to put that here to remind me that I work for myself and for my future. I am not a slave to the clock or to a company. I do what I do for me.

My April planning page has the Tyrell golden rose but has a quote from Jamie Lannister, “The things I do for love”.

Not only does this quote fit Olena Tyrell (in my opinion) but it encourages me to think about following my plan so that I can move towards the things I love. I want those things to be the center of my life and sometimes that takes sacrifice.

First Weekly

The first weekly spread I chose was the Lannister lion.

Picking a quote here was so hard as there are so many great lines uttered by the Lannisters but this one by Tyrion just feels like me.

I’ve been loving adding this task box to my weekly spreads so I put the first 3 days of the week and that box on the right. The lion and the quote, I knew, were going to take up some space so I put it down the side of the left page which I different for me.

This made the other daily boxes a totally different shape from the others but I’m not mad about it.

Again, red and gold are the colours of the Lannister family so they feature prominently here.

Wrapping it up

Like I said, I am a huge fan of A Song of Ice and Fire. And I’ve enjoyed creating these spreads immensely.

I haven’t seem any other bullet journalers feature this theme so I’m excited to share it with you!

Themes like this can seem so intimidating since the story, characters, setting are intricate but you can always find a way to fit it to your abilities. So I encourage you to try it out.

If you do make sure to share it with me. I’d love to see you’re take on it.

Are you a fan? Do you have a favourite character or line? Share it in the comments below. And if you want to see the other weekly spreads make sure to follow me on Instagram as I’ll be posting them weekly there!
