Having a different bullet journal monthly theme is so exciting! And I love having it inspire me every time I sit down to plan. This Sailor Moon plan with me has been so much fun to create.

Choosing a Theme

Every month I sit down to think about what theme I want to do next. The only real criteria for me is that it’s fun and something that I’m going to enjoy.

If you don’t enjoy it, you won’t do it.

I like to challenge myself a little in terms of my drawing because I want to keep getting better and I like using my journal to experiment that way.

But if you have a different goal or purpose for your journal make sure you keep it in mind when you’re deciding what to do.

Sailor Moon

Sailor Moon was one of my favourite tv shows when I was growing up.

My sister and our friends loved to pretend to be them and I’ve passed the love on to my daughters as well. My oldest was even Sailor Moon last Halloween.

If you’ve been following me for a while you’ll know that I like to make drawing and planning a family activity with my girls. So picking a theme that they’ll like and will follow along with is something I like to do.

This one definitely fit the bill!

I did a Pokemon theme last year and it was a lot of fun, the girls loved it and it was up my alley in terms of drawing ability so I thought the anime style of Sailor Moon would be a good fit.

Planning it Out

I changed a few things this month.

Bullet journaling is a never ending evolution. I encourage you to review your set up and weeklies often so that you can make changes when needed.

There are so many different ways to bullet journal and tweaking your spreads till you find the perfect fit for you is a must.

For my planning I wanted to make sure that I was able to have a page dedicated to all the characters in the show. But of course, there were too many!

I chose to go with the first 5 Sailor Scouts, Luna and Artemis and Tuxedo Mask.

Tuxedo Mask was a bit out of my comfort zone because historically I have a hard time drawing men. But I wanted to push for it anyways!

I also planned out who was going to be where.

I chose to do a cover page with Serena (Sailor Moon’s alter ego) then my opening monthly set up has her transforming, followed by her guides and rival/love interest.

Luckily, there were going to be 5 weeks in my month so I could put a Scout on each.

Lets dive in so you can take a look!

Cover Page

I don’t often do cover pages.

I’ve done maybe 4 cover pages, ever. Actually exactly 4, I went and counted lol. Most of the time I do them if I have an extra page but this one just felt right.

I was originally planning of doing Serena and Luna together but this picture was just too cute to pass up.

Can I just say, I’m so proud of her hand. Hands are hard to draw!

Monthly Set Up

I like my themes to be progressions.

So since it’s Serena the school girl on the cover I needed her transforming into Sailor Moon. Also, the transformations were one of the most fun parts of the show.

It NEEDED to be immortalized in my bujo.

May Sailor Moon calendar page.

Guys, I rave about these Crayola Metallic Markers all the time but it’s because they are so awesome! Look at that moon! Any excuse I have to use them, I totally do.

Side note, My Tombows have been a bit stripey in this journal when I use them to colour. Have any of you experienced this with the Peter Pauper journals?

Otherwise this is a pretty typically spread for me. I like my Ryder calendar and my mini traditional calendar and sections for my big tasks and goals for the month.

I have my habit tracker on this page as well. I’ve been shaving off some habits that I haven’t been finding helpful and trying to add on a few that really need my focus.

I haven’t picked all of them for this month but I will be sticking with

  • No alcohol
  • No spend days
  • When I wash or co-wash my hair (bujo hair routine spread here)
  • Period tracking – cuz you gotta know right?
  • Workouts
  • Emailed Subscribers

I like using icons instead or writing out the habits to save space at the top of the page. What do you think?

Monthly Trackers

I decided to keep the gratitude and chores collaboration page this month.

In spring I know that cleaning is supposed to be a thing (and I’m doing it!) but it’s taking a bit of a backseat to trying to finish up my bujo course.

But gratitude is a must. So even though it’s smaller, it still has to be there.

On the opposite page I’ve changed my fitness tracker to be less about my food and more about my workouts.

I’ve never been a gym girl but I’ve been trying. So I’m taking a similar strategy here as I did to my chores tracker. If I plan my workouts in advance then I know when it’s all going to get done and there is a lot less thinking involved.

That’s always the goal for me.

I’m already a healthy eater and I’m actually trying to eat more right now to gain some muscle so I don’t have to worry so much about that part.

Planning Pages

Ever month needs planning pages.

Mine feature Tuxedo Mask. Make sure that you take some time each month to figure out what you’re working towards.

My Tuxedo Mask turned out alright. My red marker was dying while I was trying to do his cape. But I worked with it.

Week 1

In the cartoon the first Sailor Scout Sailor Moon meets is Sailor Mercury so it was only fitting for her to be the first Scout to be featured on a weekly spread.

Keeping with her colour scheme I wrote the dates on the right side of each box in blue.

Thoughts?

I love this theme so far and I’m excited to see how my tweaks play out. What did you think?
