Before I kick off my October plan with me, I must tell you something. My family and I are Halloween obsessed. Like, not normal people obsessed but obsessed to the point where we have a 5yr costume plan and start making them in May. I have been a Nightmare Before Christmas fan since I was a teenager and it’s one of the movies that my kids and I have the most fun watching this time of year so it was only natural that it would become a bullet journal theme for us. With October here that’s exactly what we chose.

Planning

Now, I had trouble narrowing down everything I wanted to include but in planning this month I took into consideration a few things.

  1. What characters would I have FUN drawing?
  2. How did I want to display them?
  3. Was there anything I wanted to change from last month?

I picked Jack, Sally, the Mayor and Oogie Boogie for my weekly spreads and I decided that I wanted to put them all in picture frames. This way I could cut each page into 4 boxes- 7 for the days of the week and 1 for the picture frame surrounding the character.

For my goals page, I wanted to keep the drawings a bit smaller so I could add in a blog to do section.

From last month I wanted to make sure that I got a mini calendar in since I forgot it in September and I also needed to update my chores page. Since I moved my old list didn’t quite make sense.

The Spreads

October Cover Layout

For my cover page we have a pensive Jack sitting on, let’s face it, I have no idea what. I felt like this set the stage for the month and the feel of the theme. I did this drawing completely in pencil and shades of grey except for the pumpkins and the light. My intention is to keep the colour scheme pretty dark, just like the movie while incorporating pops of yellows, oranges, and reds to give it that Fall vibe. I liked how the “October” came out. I’m not sure if you can tell in the photo but I did it in gel pen then coloured over it in pencil and it gave it this very etched effect, like a tombstone… oooo creepy.

Ryder Calendar and Gratitude Log

My Ryder calendar and gratitude page feature the Halloween Town Sign, welcoming you to the rest of the layouts. Nothing too special, just a habits, goals and tasks section to keep me on track as well.

Chores tracker and Blog Planner

Don’t we all have a monster under our bed? I feel that way when I’m doing chores which made this the perfect choice. “I am the one hiding under your bed, teeth ground sharp and eyes glowing red” says every dust bunny I’ve ever seen lol. This is the first month that I added a whole page for blog planning as well. I got totally off track in August with moving and wanted to make sure that it was a focus this month for me to be putting out content consistently. What better reminder that a page featuring angry toys.

1st Week of October ft. The Pumpkin King, Jack Skellington

Then here we are at week 1 of October. Jack is, of course, the first character to make an appearance this month in my weekly spreads. I outlined the daily boxes in black and wrote the dates in grey curly letters to keep it cohesive.

Lastly, for my first goals page, I have my work trackers as well as my to do’s, meal ideas, grocery list, and my blog section. My smaller doodle here is of Zero, Jack’s faithful pet.

Thoughts

I can’t explain how excited I am to be doing this theme. I want to draw it all out right now! It’s going to also to be a nice departure from the girliness of the last two months. The pictures are also back in my comfort zone as far as my drawing capabilities.
