September Flip Through

Was it just me or did September pass by in the blink of an eye? It feels like Labour Day weekend (I’m Canadian) was just days ago with the hustle and bustle of back to school. But here we are in October, so it’s time to take a look at my September flip through.

Set Up

For the month of September, my lovely little kiddos convinced me that the logical next theme to come after mermaids is unicorns! In order to keep it from getting too girly I decided to pair them with dreamcatchers. I wanted to go for whimsical and dreamy as my vibes.

Ryder Calendar and Goals/Tasks

Usually I spend quite a bit of time putting together my monthly set up spreads but this one seems a bit of a warm-up. This could have been a good spread but the stiffness of the dreamcatcher above my ryder calender, the lopsided unicorn crown and the mistake on my “S” in September definitely detract.

Gratitude and Chores

Since I had such issues with my opening spread I wanted to redeem myself in this next one. I think I did t0o. Going easy on the skilled drawing, I put in a cartoon unicorn on my gratitude page with a little reminder that gratitude and thankfulness is a form of magic. I LOVE the dreamcatcher on the next page. It turned out loads better than the one on my calendar page. Much more in line with what I was hoping for.

Weeklies

Wk1

My first week was silver cloud boxes and Rarity from My Little Pony. She was always my favourite just because of her colouring. Take a peek at my September plan with me for a close up of the “magical” on this page. It turned out great, pretty 3D looking.

Bi-weekly goals

The goals spread has a bit of a different spin on the unicorn. I’m a nature lover so when I saw this unicorn/ tree hybrid I knew I wanted to use it this month.

For week two the unicorn has a dreamcatcher right in it. I was really happy with the dreamy quality that this picture ended up having. I used my Crayola metallic purple marker for my columns and my white Gelli-Roll gel pen to write in all the dates. This spread was a winner.

Going more in the dreamcatcher direction, this week I turned the “D” into a dreamcatcher and used the ombre lettering that I learned last month. I really liked the layering of the metallic markers at the top of each of the daily boxes. Again I used the white Gelli-Roll to mark the dates.

Bi-weekly goals 2

This goal spread has a geometric unicorn. I wanted to a whole bunch of variety in my unicorns this month so I kept trying different things. I really liked this one! The washi tape I used for it to stand on looked a bit icy so I mirrored that with the wash of colour under the categories on the opposite page.

For my last spread, I did a line drawing of a unicorn. Take a look at the close up below to get a better view.

All in the details

Here are some close-ups of a few details in my spreads. It’s really the details that pull everything together and get you really excited about looking at the page for a week.

Thoughts

This September flip through turned out way better than I was expecting it to. I loved the variety that I was able to incorporate in my different unicorns. The pairing with the dreamcatchers worked out great too. They really blended together more cohesively than I anticipated when I had the idea.

Cutting down on some of the quotes and letting the doodles shine was also a good change.

This is the first time that I really had the Gelli-Roll pen shine too. It layered wonderfully over the Crayola metallic markers.

I made some notes to myself on the tasks page as well as a reminder for October. I wanted to make sure that I remembered my mini calendar as a visual accompaniment to my Ryder calendar and I needed to change my chores list because it didn’t make sense after me moving.

Until next time,

Happy Journaling!
