August Flip Through

In August I got ambitious. Elated off the success of my Zelda spread I gave into my girls’ suggestion to do mermaids. August is, after all the perfect time to do a theme like that. Unfortunately, my talent wasn’t always enough to get me through the drawings. In this August flip through you’ll see some spreads work really well and some others that could have come together a bit better, but hey it’s all a processes and with practice, we get better. Here is my August flip through for you to take a look at.

Planning

So mermaids it is! Following a similar pattern of finding pictures (pinterst board here) and quotes first, pairing the two together then getting to work on the drawing pieces!

August Monthly Spread

Starting off the month I have a mermaid gazing out at a boat from her rock. I put in a smaller version of my mini calendar on this spread with a few simple monthly tasks and goals. I was moving at the end of August so it was important to keep things simple.

1st half week

The first week of August was a half week so my immediate next spread was a continuation of the prior week. I wanted to keep it close to my July layout since this week was tied to my bi-weekly goals page from the last week in July.

Chores and Gratitude log

This was my favourite spread of the month. I LOVE my mermaid in a teacup and the ombre lettering I managed to pull off on my gratitude page.

Week 2 ft. Ariel

My Ariel variation was the mermaid that turned out the best in my opinion. I liked the ombre from the spread before so much that I used it again in the quote at the bottom of the page.

Goals bi-weekly page

This mermaid was also one that turned out well and gave me the opportunity to work on my face drawing abilities.

Week 3

For this week, I put little shell collections on the corner of each of the daily boxes which turned out cute. The little ship at the top of the left page also added a little bit of variety which was nice.

Week 4

Here is where my rush and lack of practice really come through. I’m not that confident in faces and I with my move looming this spread got a bit rushed and it certainly showed.

Goals Bi-weekly 2

Once again, if I had taken more time I would have really liked this picture but it was a bit sloppy and ended up being mediocre. I was also increasingly busy with packing so I wasn’t as diligent with my tracking as I usually am.

Week 5

Back to comfort! Seeing how my last 2 spreads turned out I went cartoon for my last week. It was also my moving week so a lot of the week is blank so I could focus on my big tasks.

Curly Girl Hair Spread

Over the last year, my hair has been changing a lot. I thought that there was no better month to put a hair spread in than one that’s mermaid themed! If you’d like to see more about this spread check it out here.

This month was a bit of an eye opener. While I was excited about getting it started I lot a lot of confidence as I was drawing. Remember, we all have different levels of art abilities and we just have to try and practice to get better. I’m going to keep working at it and build those skills!
