GUYS! It’s been a long time since I did a post like this. But January 2020 deserves a plan with me. If you haven’t seen my 2020 annual set up you can do that here but there are a few new annual spreads in this post too.

Coming into the new year I wanted to make sure that I had my annual set up and my January ready well before I actually needed to use them. This is because the holidays can be so busy and I have so much to do in the productivity niche this time of year.

We’re all looking for ways to make sure that the next year is going to be amazing right? And I definitely want to help you on that front!

My bullet journal mindset

I’ve been on a bit of a minimalist kick with my bullet journal recently. Don’t get me wrong, I love to draw in my journal and having beautiful spreads makes me happy to have my journal open all day beside me. But with so much going on and the number of spreads that I needed to create in a short period of time, minimalism was in for me.

Additional annual spreads

There are 2 more spreads that I added to my annual set up for this year

Book Club

The first of the 2 annual spreads that I added in after my 2020 set up was for my book club.

Man, I’m telling you, if you’re not in a book club you should find some good people and form one. I have loved every second of being able to learn, grow and make new friends through my little bi-monthly book club.

But back to the spread!

We all give suggestions for books then rank them from most interested to read to least and then the top 6 books are the ones on our list for the year.

Since this is something I’m enjoying so much I wanted to give it some love in my annual set up.

I split the spread into 6 sections with the month that we’re discussing the book on the side and the title at the top. My intention is to fill in my biggest take away in underneath each title.

The 6 books we’re reading are:

  • The Wisdom of the Enneagram
  • The Tools
  • The Untethered Soul – Michael Singer
  • The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up – Marie Kondo
  • The Way to Love
  • Seven Fallen Feathers.

Fitness Tracker

The second spread I made was for my fitness.

I’ve always been active but with recent changes in my work lifestyle, I’ve had to be much more conscious about what I’m doing for myself in order to feel my best. Last February I decided, for the first time in my life, to start going to the gym.

Historically I hated the gym but I was feeling weak and squishy and I was fatiguing really easily. I didn’t want to feel that way anymore. So I made a change. You can read more about that in my Design your Own Fitness Tracker post.

I started to change my diet to incorporate some more protein in order to start trying to build some muscle mass. Along with putting together some workouts for myself.

After going to the gym 4-5 times a week and eating better for the last 9 months, I’ve been able to see some changes but mostly I can feel them. I’ve been able to at least DOUBLE the amount of weight I can lift in every exercise I do. Plus I have a ton more energy when running around with my kids or throwing the football with my partner.

Goals

I want to keep working on that by actually tracking some of my progress. Like I said, I’m trying to build muscle so I expect to gain weight and get bigger so I’m going to track a few of my measurements.

This will also double as help for some of my sewing projects. I like to make clothing myself so I needed my measurements anyway 😂.

I’m also going to do a fitness test for myself at the beginning of January to see what I’m lifting for common exercises and write that in and compare it to later in the year when I do it again. I want to be stronger after all the work I’m putting in 💪.

Work out Split.

On the other side of this spread is my workout split for the first quarter of the year. I’m going to be changing it up every 3ish months but I need to track what I’m doing so I can make good, informed decisions.

January Layout

As I mentioned I’m keeping January pretty simple.

This sort of set up is pretty common for me but that’s because it gives me everything I need.

Calendar

Over the last few months I haven’t been including as many elements in my set ups, mostly because I was running out of room. But when I started to create January I was trying to think of if there was anything important I wanted to make sure I revisited and I couldn’t think of much.

I have a mini calendar on the left with space for over arching goals and tasks for the month. Then I have a ryder calendar on the right.

Washi tape is great for minimal spreads since it makes them look pretty with literally no work. The same is true for a metallic gel pen. Both of these match with the feel of my 2020 set up as well which is a plus.

The only real difference is in the font. I chose a really cool lined font combined with a flowy cursive for contrast. Both fonts can be found on my Pinterest Board for bujo fonts here.

Gratitude and Planning

In the winter I think it’s incredibly important to focus on what you’re grateful for. That’s why I really wanted to make sure I had space for a gratitude log this month.

I also added in a Blog Planning page to make sure that I had a ton of emphasis on starting the new year right with my business.

There are only small details on these spreads like the metallic dots following the curve of the letters and the washi tape highlighting the headers.

My first weekly spread

For the first week in January, I went back to the spread that I did back in September.

I added a header on the left page, January 1-5 in the same cross through font then added charts for the weekly forecast and what workouts I’m planning on doing.

Since I wrote out my work out split in the spread above I can just add the number I’m going to do then check it off when it’s done.

On that same page, I also have boxes for blogging tasks, personal tasks and recruiting tasks. Having these separated has been really helpful throughout the week as I look to check off my main focuses.

On the right side, I have 5 boxes for the first five days of the month. I tried to lighten the spread up a bit by making the top of each box blue and adding a wintery quote in place of the sixth box since it’s not necessary for this spread.

I love the font for this month! And now that I’m thinking about it, it might be the same one I used to create this minimal annual set up last year.

What does your January bujo look like? Do you have a theme or did you keep it simple like I did?
